I remember the summer nights when we went up to the meeting room of the town hall and carried down folding chairs to put in front of the screen outside. It wasn't unusual for the truck to come by spraying a fog of insectiside behind it to get rid of the mosquitoes. We hadn't heard of Rachel Carson and her warnings and we would run after the truck or ride bicycles through the fog. Jarboe would have treats for us like popsicles. Not all of the movies would have been g rated I suppose. I have a memory of prisoners banging metal cups on prison bars. I think it was a war movie that must have had Japanese in it. Anyway, for years ( I think mostly upper elementary grades) Jarboe's was the place to be on Friday nights.
