As long as I live, I will never forget the (never to be immitated) melt-a-ways my Dad and I ate at Arnots Bakers EVERY Saturday...the cream horns were pretty terrific too. The thought of it makes one wax nostalgic. Thanks Don. Tom R did a wonderful job recreating the memory. Thanks to him too. Alas, that was before we gave any thought whats so ever to calorie/fat/sugar content....those were the good old days!

Joe Angel played for the Class D Pittsburg Diamonds baseball team in Pittsburg, California back in 1950-51. He was a very good pitcher for them. Went to all the games and he was a favorite of the fans. I was just "googling" and there he is on your website. Sorry to read that he passed away last year.

I also worked on the boardwalk in the fifties first at Bud's cat game where you tried to knock the cat dolls over with a baseball and then at Mr. Haneys snackbar which was under the covered portion of the boardwalk (i worked there two summers and then I worked for Ray manuel's Pee Wee bar which sold all the regular boardwalk goodies ie hotdogs hamburgers dogs on a stick etc. Like every body says it was a glorious time a time we'll never experience again.
All the lunch time trips up on the "Old Pier" to look at the girls or watch the people dance ( the beachbop) I remember going to work at 10:00am and really not being able to see the ocean for all the crowd on the boardwalk until about 3pm before it cleared up enough to see the oceanfront again.
I remember going back to school in the fall with my left hand still being stained from making sno cones all summer long and cotton candy.
Then I turned 16 and got a "Real Job" working at the A&P grocery store till i graduated in 1960 and really had to go to work.
Oh well so much for the memories.

I'm so glad to be here to ring in the New Year & Proud to make the BIG "65" milestone on last Friday's Birthday. I was sad to read of the resent loss of fellow class member "Ronnie" Malin. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family in their time of grief. I'm looking forward to being in Jax Beach again in 2011 for my 50 th reunion . ~ CLASS of '61 ~

i remember myself and robert shearon trying to walk to the end of the jetties and back with nothing but our swim trunks and bare feet.by the time we got to the end the tide started coming in and covering the rocks.about a third of the way back our trunks were torn ,our feet were bleeding and lo and behold here came wimpy suttton in his motorboat. we yelled out and he spotted us and rescued us from our foolish adventure.he even bought us a coke.he had fun telling that one back in the classroom for many years.but robert and i were truly grateful....jim hayes

The one job which I truly enjoyed was working as a dealer at Art's Mouse game on the boardwalk Does anyone have a picture? Since the game could have been considered illegal I doubt the owner wanted much notoriety, However it was one of the very few jobs which I truly enjoyed including the corporate structure and my own business later in life.

"Art used to bring his games to my Dad's Cabinet Shop during the off times for rehab. They were really in good shape and needed repair only after some drunk customer did damage to them. Once in awhile we had to go to the game room to do repairs after hours. Art was a real nice customer, and he had stories about how he kept his rats. They were a special rodent from South America, and he was proud of them . I always enjoyed the night time repair since I could play the other games while my Dad (Harry Ravoo)and Art did the repairs.Sorry no pictures." They were mice not rats. We would trap them in the building. The bait was old Hershey bars obtained from the 5 and dime. Art could tell a good tale

Thanks for the picture., I remember in 1940 the season membership pool dues were $5.00. Our Moms would drop us off in the AM and pick us up mid PM knowing we were perfectly safe. The pool was larger than olympic size with a very large shallow end. Many took swimming lessons and learned dive .The slide board was terrific. Brings back fond memories of those wonderful days prior to WWII

"I believe Seminole Beach started at 16th Ave No. in Atlantic Beach and continued as Mr. Mabry stated. Prior to WWII my Dad's friend would land his plane on Seminole Beach early AM on Sun and off they would go. The pilot flew the Berma hump and later retired as an airline Capt. I also remember midget auto races being held as a child as well as skeeter races later." Should be Burma Hump
